Record grading

Please read the condition notes and view all photographs before buying.

Vinyl and sleeve condition

Our listings describe the vinyl and sleeve separately. A record can have a higher vinyl grade and a lower sleeve grade; check both before buying.

Understanding the abbreviations

  • VG+ means Very Good Plus.
  • VG means Very Good.
  • G means Good.

The individual listing’s condition notes give more detail about that particular copy, including any wear or damage described. Photographs help show its condition.

What the grades tell you

These are broad collecting terms, not a substitute for the notes about an individual copy.

  • NM (Near Mint): a nearly pristine record with very little evidence of use.
  • VG+ (Very Good Plus): light signs of use, such as minor scuffs; not the same as a new record.
  • VG (Very Good): more noticeable wear, with surface noise or audible marks possible.
  • G or G+ (Good or Good Plus): substantial wear; expect more noise and read the specific defects carefully.

Sleeve grades describe the packaging, not the sound. Creases, ring wear, writing, seam splits and repairs matter separately from the vinyl. A visual grade alone cannot guarantee playback: photographs show appearance, while any stated play-test notes provide additional information.
